Jim Rataczak is a native of Minnesota. From an early age, he displayed an interest in drawing the outdoors, especially birds. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in biology, with an emphasis on bird behavior, and has worked for the U.S. Forest Service and the Brookfield Zoo. Jim's extensive study of birds reignited his passion to paint. Today, Jim lives in Minnesota, where he is inspired by the thousand acres of marsh, creek, woods and field of his back door. "Fresh Snow" was inspired by a host of grouse tracks Jim encountered while cross-country skiing through the Minnesota woods.
